Thales SafeNet eToken 5110+: secure USB authentication for corporate identities and access
Thales SafeNet eToken 5110+ is a two-factor USB hardware authenticator designed to protect digital identities and access to corporate resources. Smart card technology stores credentials such as private keys, passwords and digital certificates within the secure environment of the chip, adding an extra layer of security compared to using a password alone.
Compact and portable, it can be used for secure access to VPNs and web portals, network authentication, digital signing, email encryption and pre-boot authentication.
Two-factor authentication and secure credentials
The SafeNet eToken 5110+ combines physical possession of the token with a password to provide phishing-resistant two-factor authentication. Certificate-based credentials are stored on the smart card chip, helping to protect access to corporate networks, applications and digital resources.
The standard version features 80 KB of memory and utilises the Thales IDCore 30 platform with eToken applets.
Digital signatures and secure access to corporate resources
The token supports advanced certificate-based applications, including digital signatures, email encryption and pre-boot authentication. It can also be used for secure remote access to VPNs and web portals, and for authentication to corporate networks.
The USB format makes it easy to issue a personal device to employees and contractors who need secure access to the organisation’s resources.
USB Type-A and cross-platform compatibility
The SafeNet eToken 5110+ uses a USB Type-A connector with support for USB 1.1 and USB 2.0 and does not require a dedicated external smart card reader. Its dimensions of 16.4 × 8.5 × 40.2 mm make it easy to carry and use on a daily basis.
It is compatible with Windows, macOS and Linux and supports BaseCSP minidrivers, GlobalPlatform 2.2.1, Java Card 3.04 and ISO 7816 specifications 1 to 4.
Integrated cryptographic algorithms
The standard version supports 3DES and AES 128/192/256-bit, SHA-1 and SHA-256 hash algorithms, and RSA encryption up to 2048 bits. The P-256 and P-384 elliptic curves and ECDH are also supported.
The smart card chip has CC EAL6+ security certification. This specification refers to the standard SafeNet eToken 5110+ and should not be confused with the certifications for the 5110+ FIPS and 5110+ CC variants.
Durable design for everyday use
The casing is made of rigid plastic with tamper-evident features and offers IPX7 water resistance in accordance with IEC 60529. The manufacturer specifies a data retention period of at least 10 years and at least 500,000 rewrites of the memory cells.
The device operates at temperatures between 0 °C and 70 °C and can be stored between -40 °C and 85 °C.
