Datalogic QuickScan QD2590 - Fast and accurate 1 MP 2D scanning for professional workstations

The Datalogic QuickScan QD2590 is a wired 2D scanner with a 1-megapixel sensor designed to quickly capture a wide variety of barcodes in day-to-day professional settings. It forms part of the QuickScan 2500 series and combines omnidirectional scanning, a high-precision aiming system, Green Spot technology and multi-interface connectivity.

This configuration is available as a complete kit in black and includes the scanner, the 90A052258 USB cable and the STD-AUTFLX-QD25-BK mount. It is a solution designed primarily for retail outlets, commercial services, healthcare, access control and other workstations requiring the scanning of codes that are either printed or displayed on mobile devices.

1-megapixel sensor for 1D and 2D codes

The QD2590 utilises a 1-megapixel image sensor with a resolution of 1280 × 800 pixels. Compared to the VGA sensor used in the QW2500, the QD2500 platform is geared towards superior scanning performance and greater depth of field.

Scanning is omnidirectional and supports the main 1D and 2D barcodes, as well as postal, stacked and composite codes. Compatible 2D symbologies include Aztec Code, China Han Xin Code, Data Matrix, MaxiCode, Micro QR Code, QR Code and DotCode.

Support for complex codes, OCR and digital watermarks

The versatility of the imaging system allows it to go beyond traditional linear barcodes. The QD2590 supports stacked codes such as PDF417, MicroPDF417 and MacroPDF, as well as the GS1 DataBar Stacked, Expanded Stacked and Composite variants.

The QD2500 platform also supports Digimarc Digital Watermark codes and OCR functionality for OCR-A, OCR-B and MICR. This capability expands the scanner’s range of applications in professional settings requiring the capture of different formats.

Precise targeting with blue LED and red illumination

To facilitate alignment, the QD2590 utilises a 468 nm blue LED targeting system. On QD models, the aiming system consists of two clearly defined blue triangles, designed to clearly indicate to the operator the area towards which the scanner is pointing.

The illumination, on the other hand, uses a 617 nm red LED. The soft light is designed to reduce visual fatigue for the operator during repetitive scanning tasks, helping to make day-to-day use more comfortable.

Green Spot for immediate read confirmation

The patented Datalogic Green Spot technology provides visual confirmation directly on the code when the scan is completed successfully. The green spot appears centred within the barcode area and appears alongside the ‘good read’ LED.

An audible signal with adjustable pitch is also available. The operator therefore has both visual and audible feedback to immediately recognise a successful scan, a feature that is particularly useful in workstations characterised by a continuous flow of scans.

Motionix for smoother operational transitions

The QD2590 incorporates the patented Motionix technology for motion detection. The system is designed to recognise changes in how the scanner is being used and to facilitate transitions between scanning modes without interrupting the normal workflow.

Combined with the included stand, this feature makes the kit particularly versatile for workstations where it is useful to switch between different modes of use throughout the day.

Good performance even with difficult codes

The QuickScan 2500 series is designed to provide effective scanning even when the barcode is difficult to capture, poorly printed or damaged. It is also optimised to read codes displayed on mobile phone screens and to scan through plexiglass barriers.

These capabilities are particularly useful in retail outlets, where the same scanner can be used for traditional items, electronic vouchers and digital loyalty cards presented directly on a smartphone.

Resolution of up to 3 mil for linear codes

The system achieves a maximum resolution of 0.077 mm, equivalent to 3 mil, on linear 1D codes and PDF417. For Data Matrix, the maximum declared resolution is 0.127 mm, equivalent to 5 mil, whilst for QR Codes it is 0.17 mm, equivalent to 6.7 mil.

The minimum print contrast ratio is 15 per cent and motion tolerance reaches 30 IPS. The reading angles are ±65° for pitch and skew, whilst rotation reaches 360°, facilitating omnidirectional scanning.

Depth of field suitable for different barcodes

The depth of field depends on the symbology, print resolution, contrast and lighting conditions. With a 5 mil Code 39, the typical depth of field is between 0.5 and 25 cm, whilst with a 10 mil Code 39 it reaches up to 38 cm.

For 13 mil EAN/UPC-A, the specified depth of field reaches 41 cm. With a 10 mil Data Matrix, it reaches 21.5 cm; with a 20 mil QR Code, 37 cm; and with a 6.7 mil PDF417, it can reach 51 cm.

USB-C, USB and RS-232 on a single platform

The QD2590 stands out from the QW2520 and QD2520 versions due to its multi-interface connectivity. It supports USB Type-C, USB and RS-232, offering greater flexibility when the scanner needs to be integrated into different professional infrastructures.

The specific configuration of this kit includes a USB cable 90A052258. The availability of multiple interfaces on the scanner nevertheless allows the device to be adapted to the requirements of the workstation by using the appropriate connection.

IP52 rating and durability for professional use

The QuickScan QD2590 features an IP52 rating and is designed to withstand repeated drops from 1.5 m onto a concrete surface. The stated scan endurance reaches 10 million scans, contributing to reliability in applications characterised by frequent use.

ESD protection reaches 16 kV in air. The device can operate at temperatures between 0 °C and 50 °C and can be stored or transported between -40 °C and 70 °C, with a supported humidity of up to 95 per cent non-condensing.
