The Datalogic Gryphon I GD4590 is a professional wired 2D scanner from the Gryphon 4500 series, developed for data capture applications requiring precision, reliability and integration flexibility. The megapixel sensor, omnidirectional scanning and Datalogic’s feedback system enable rapid handling of numerous barcode types.

The GD4590 model is equipped with multiple interfaces: USB Type-C, USB and RS-232. This configuration makes it particularly versatile for integration with POS terminals, light industrial systems, healthcare infrastructure and other professional applications.

1-megapixel 2D sensor

The image sensor offers a resolution of 1280 × 800 pixels. The 1 MP lens is designed to ensure high scanning performance and good depth of field in day-to-day operations.

Omnidirectional imaging technology allows the code to be captured without having to precisely align the scanner and the barcode. This simplifies repetitive tasks and helps to make the scanning process smoother.

Scans 1D, 2D, postal and composite codes

The Gryphon I GD4590 automatically recognises the main 1D linear barcodes, including GS1 DataBar. Supported 2D symbologies include Aztec, China Han Xin, Data Matrix, MaxiCode, Micro QR, QR Code and DotCode.

The platform also supports numerous postal and stacked codes, including Australian Post, British Post, China Post, IMB, Japanese Post, KIX Post, Planet, Postnet, Royal Mail, PDF417, MicroPDF417 and various GS1 DataBar variants.

Image and document capture

In addition to barcode decoding, the Gryphon 4500 series offers image capture and document scanning functions. Images can be captured in BMP, JPEG and TIFF formats, with 256, 16 or 2-level greyscale.

This versatility broadens the scanner’s range of applications in scenarios where data capture extends beyond simply reading a barcode.

Precise aiming and white illumination

The optical system utilises a 650 nm laser pointer combined with soft white illumination. The four-point aiming system with a central cross helps the operator to precisely locate the area to be scanned.

The white illumination is also designed to improve comfort during frequent use of the scanner in professional workstations.

Green Spot and immediate read confirmation

The patented Datalogic Green Spot technology projects a ‘good read’ confirmation directly onto the scanned code. The device also incorporates the 3GL system with green indicators and a programmable audible signal.

An optional vibration feedback feature is also available, which is particularly useful in quiet environments or in situations where an audible confirmation might be less effective.

Motionix to adapt to the operator’s movements

The Motionix technology detects the scanner’s movement and allows for seamless switching between different reading modes. The device achieves a motion tolerance of 35 IPS.

The specified reading angles are ±65° for Pitch, 360° for Roll and ±65° for Skew, offering good positioning flexibility during scanning.

Standard Range performance for professional use

For the Standard Range optics, the maximum resolution reaches 0.102 mm / 4 mil for 1D linear barcodes. For PDF417, it reaches 0.127 mm / 5 mil, whilst for Data Matrix it reaches 0.195 mm / 7.5 mil.

The minimum print contrast ratio is 15 per cent, a feature that aids the handling of barcodes with varying print conditions.

Depth of field up to 71 cm

With Standard Range optics, the depth of field varies depending on the symbology, resolution, contrast and lighting conditions. With 5 mil Code 39, the specified range is between 7 and 38 cm, whilst with 10 mil Code 39 it reaches 58 cm.

With 13-mil EAN/UPC, the reading distance can reach 71 cm. For 15-mil Data Matrix, it reaches 41 cm; for 10-mil PDF417, up to 41 cm; and for 10-mil QR Code, up to 24 cm.

USB, USB-C and RS-232 in a single scanner

The GD4590 model differs from the GD4520 in its multi-interface connectivity. It supports USB Type-C, USB and RS-232, allowing the scanner to be adapted to different host systems and professional infrastructures.

This is a fully wired model: it does not use Bluetooth or the STAR Cordless System, technologies reserved respectively for the GBT and GM models in the Gryphon 4500 family.

IP52 protection and resistance to drops from 1.8 metres

The design is built to withstand daily professional use. The scanner offers an IP52 protection rating and can withstand drops from a height of 1.8 metres onto a concrete surface.

Protection against electrostatic discharge reaches 16 kV. The scanner can operate in ambient light levels ranging from 0 to 100,000 lux and at relative humidity of up to 95 per cent, non-condensing.

Disinfectant-Ready housing

The Gryphon 4500 series utilises Disinfectant-Ready housings, designed to withstand daily cleaning with harsh disinfectant solutions commonly used in healthcare environments.

This feature makes the platform particularly suitable for laboratories, pharmacies and hospitals, as well as other organisations where shared devices are cleaned frequently.
