The Datalogic Gryphon I GD4520 is a professional wired 2D scanner from the Gryphon 4500 series, designed for data capture applications requiring precision, ergonomics and reliability. The Megapixel sensor, omnidirectional reading and Datalogic feedback technologies enable the rapid processing of numerous types of barcodes.

This GD4520-BKK1S configuration is supplied in black as a kit comprising the scanner, a 90A052258 USB cable and a stand. It is therefore suitable for setting up a complete wired scanning workstation for retail, healthcare, services and light manufacturing.

1-megapixel 2D sensor

The Gryphon I GD4520 utilises a 1-megapixel image sensor with a resolution of 1280 × 800 pixels. The optics are designed to deliver high performance and good depth of field in day-to-day professional tasks.

Omnidirectional scanning allows barcodes to be captured from different orientations, reducing the need to precisely align the scanner with the code. This streamlines repetitive tasks at the till, on the counter or in product management.

Comprehensive reading of 1D and 2D codes

The scanner automatically recognises the main 1D linear barcodes, including GS1 DataBar codes. For 2D codes, it supports Aztec, China Han Xin, Data Matrix, MaxiCode, Micro QR, QR Code and DotCode.

The Gryphon 4500 platform also handles numerous postal, stacked and composite symbologies, including Australian Post, British Post, China Post, IMB, Japanese Post, KIX Post, Planet, Postnet, Royal Mail, PDF417, MicroPDF417 and various GS1 DataBar variants.

Image capture and document scanning

In addition to barcode decoding, the Gryphon 4500 features image capture and document scanning capabilities. Images can be captured in BMP, JPEG and TIFF formats.

The greyscale supports 256, 16 or 2 levels, expanding its potential for use in professional applications where visual information needs to be captured in addition to standard barcodes.

Precise aiming with white illumination

The optical system combines a 650 nm laser pointer with soft white illumination. The four-point aiming technology with a central cross makes it easy to precisely identify the area to be scanned.

The highly visible white illumination is designed to provide a comfortable scanning experience even during frequent use.

Green Spot and 3GL for immediate feedback

The patented Datalogic Green Spot technology provides confirmation of a successful read directly on the code. The operator can therefore immediately verify that the scan has been completed correctly.

The system is complemented by 3GL technology with green indicators, a dual ‘good read’ LED and an audible signal with a programmable tone. Vibration feedback is also available for applications where an audible confirmation is less suitable.

Motionix for automatic adaptation to movement

The patented Motionix technology detects the device’s movement and facilitates the transition between different scanning modes. The scanner can therefore adapt to the way the operator uses it during various tasks.

Motion tolerance reaches 35 IPS. The reading angles are ±65° for Pitch, 360° for Roll and ±65° for Skew, offering considerable freedom of positioning relative to the barcode.

Standard Range reading performance

In the Standard Range configuration, the maximum resolution reaches 0.102 mm / 4 mil for 1D linear codes. For PDF417, the resolution is 0.127 mm / 5 mil, whilst for Data Matrix it reaches 0.195 mm / 7.5 mil.

The minimum print contrast ratio is 15 per cent, which helps to handle barcodes with varying print conditions.

Depth of field up to 71 cm

The depth of field varies depending on the symbology, print resolution, contrast and lighting conditions. For 5 mil Code 39, the specified range is between 7 and 38 cm, whilst for 10 mil Code 39 it extends to 58 cm.

With 13 mil EAN/UPC, the distance can reach 71 cm. For 15 mil Data Matrix and 10 mil PDF417, it reaches up to 41 cm, whilst for 10 mil QR Code it reaches 24 cm.

Wired USB connection

The GD4520 is the USB-only wired model in the range. According to Datalogic’s technical documentation, it supports USB Type-C / USB, whilst the specific kit is supplied with the 90A052258 USB cable indicated in the product configuration.

It does not incorporate Bluetooth or STAR Cordless System wireless technologies. This makes it suitable for fixed workstations where a stable wired connection is preferred, without the need to manage batteries, wireless pairings or recharging.

IP52 protection and resistance to drops from 1.8 metres

The design is intended for intensive professional use. The scanner offers an IP52 protection rating and can withstand drops from a height of 1.8 metres onto concrete surfaces.

ESD protection reaches 16 kV. The scanner can also operate in ambient light levels ranging from 0 to 100,000 lux and at relative humidity of up to 95 per cent, non-condensing.

Disinfectant-Ready housing

The Gryphon 4500 series utilises Disinfectant-Ready housings, designed to withstand daily cleaning with harsh disinfectant solutions commonly used in professional and healthcare environments.

This feature makes the device particularly suitable for facilities where scanners are shared amongst different operators and undergo regular cleaning procedures.

The Datalogic Gryphon I GD4520 is suitable for retail and points of sale, light manufacturing, laboratories, pharmacies, hospitals, access control and transport. It can also be used in post offices, banks, public administration and public utility services.
