Zebra LS2208 - Reliable 1D laser scanning for POS and professional use

The Zebra LS2208 is a wired, handheld 1D laser scanner designed to provide simple and reliable barcode capture for everyday professional tasks. It combines an ergonomic, lightweight design with an extended read range, making it particularly suitable for points of sale, stock-taking, libraries and other environments where linear barcodes are frequently handled.

This configuration comes in black with a USB cable and stand, offering a complete solution for integration into a workstation. The scanner can be used manually or placed on the stand when not in use.

1D laser scanning at up to 100 scans per second

The system uses a Class 2 650 nm laser diode and generates a single scan line. The speed reaches 100 scans per second, allowing operators to quickly capture barcodes without disrupting the normal workflow.

The minimum stated resolution for Code 39 is 3 mil, a feature that also allows the scanner to handle high-density barcodes on small items. The minimum required print contrast is 20 per cent reflectance difference.

Wide reading range for greater flexibility

One of the Zebra LS2208’s key strengths is its extended operating range. With 13 mil UPC codes, the typical reading distance can reach 63.8 cm. With 20 mil Code 39, it extends to 85.9 cm, whilst with 40 mil Code 39 it can reach 109.5 cm.

The actual distance depends on the resolution and contrast of the barcode, as well as the lighting conditions. This flexibility, however, allows many codes to be scanned without having to bring the scanner too close to the label, making checkout and stock-taking operations easier.

Compatible with the main 1D barcodes

The scanner supports numerous symbologies used in professional environments, including Code 39, Code 128, Code 93, Codabar/NW7, Code 11, MSI Plessey, UPC/EAN, Interleaved 2 of 5 and GS1 DataBar. Base 32, used in the Italian pharmaceutical sector, is also supported.

This broad compatibility allows a single scanner to be used for a variety of tasks, from scanning products at the till to managing stock, assets, loyalty cards and 1D paper vouchers.

Clear scan feedback for the operator

To confirm successful scanning, the Zebra LS2208 offers various feedback modes. The operator can use the direct decode indicator via laser flashing, the red/green ‘good read’ LED and the audible signal with adjustable tone and volume.

The availability of visual and audible feedback facilitates use in different contexts and allows immediate verification that the code has been scanned correctly.

Drop and impact resistance

The Zebra LS2208 is designed to withstand the rigours of typical work environments. It can withstand repeated drops from 1.5 m onto concrete and 500 rolling impacts from a height of 0.5 m, as per the relevant tumble test.

The device has an IP30 protection rating and can withstand electrostatic discharges of up to ±15 kV in air and ±8 kV for direct and indirect discharges. The operating temperature range is between 0 °C and 50 °C.

USB connection and simplified configuration

The kit variant offered here uses a wired USB connection. The included cable allows the scanner to be integrated into a compatible host workstation without having to purchase the necessary connection separately.

The LS2208 family also supports dedicated Zebra configuration and management tools. 123Scan enables you to configure scan parameters, update the firmware and process the captured data, whilst the Scanner Management Service allows for the remote management of compatible Zebra devices.

Included stand for greater versatility

The LS2208-SR20007R-UR configuration includes a stand in addition to the scanner and USB cable. The kit therefore allows the scanner to be kept neatly positioned on the workstation when not in use.

The LS2208 family also supports the Intellistand accessory, which enables presentation scanning and automatic switching between hands-free and handheld modes. This feature relates to the Intellistand and should not be confused with the standard stand included in this specific kit.
