Zebra DS2208 – Fast and intuitive wired 1D/2D scanning

The Zebra DS2208 is a wired scanner designed for capturing 1D and 2D barcodes. It combines omnidirectional scanning, PRZM decoding technology and a USB connection to simplify day-to-day operations at the point of sale and in other professional environments.

Capture 1D and 2D codes with a single scanner

The DS2208 supports a wide range of symbologies used in professional environments. In particular, it can decode Code 39, Code 128, Code 93, UPC/EAN, GS1 DataBar, PDF417, Data Matrix, QR Code, Micro QR and MaxiCode.

Its 640 x 480-pixel sensor and imaging system therefore allow a single device to be used for a variety of scanning applications. Zebra’s PRZM technology optimises decoding to facilitate the capture of even poorly printed barcodes.

Omnidirectional scanning for greater efficiency

Thanks to omnidirectional scanning, the user does not need to align the scanner precisely with the barcode. This design makes it easier to use and speeds up repetitive tasks.

For a 13-mil UPC code, Zebra specifies a typical reading range of 1.3 to 36.8 cm. The scanner also offers a minimum resolution of 4 mil for Code 39 and Code 128, 6 mil for Data Matrix and 6.7 mil for QR Code.

Wired connection for continuous use

The DS2208 is the wired model in the DS2200 range. It can be powered directly from its host device, thereby eliminating the need to manage a battery or recharge cycles during the working day.

The range supports USB, RS-232, interface decoder and TGCS (IBM) 46XX over RS485 interfaces. This configuration is supplied with a USB cable for connection to a compatible device.

A robust design for everyday use

The scanner is designed to withstand repeated drops from a height of 1.5 m onto concrete as well as 250 impacts from a height of 0.5 m in the Zebra-defined test drum. Its IP52 rating provides additional protection against the conditions encountered during regular professional use.

It operates between 0 °C and 50 °C and withstands relative humidity of between 5% and 95% non-condensing. Its immunity to ambient light reaches 107,600 lux.

Simplified deployment and administration

The default settings are designed to enable quick use without prior configuration in a wide range of applications. Over 90 international keyboards are supported, which also facilitates deployments in different countries.

The Zebra 123Scan software allows you to configure settings, upgrade the firmware, view scanned data and generate reports. The Scanner Management Service enables you to manage Zebra scanners remotely.

Use cases and compatibility

The Zebra DS2208 is suitable for point-of-sale, loyalty programmes, electronic vouchers, ticketing, transport and logistics, light manufacturing and public sector applications. It is also backwards compatible with the universal cables used by Zebra LS2208 scanners, which can simplify migration from a 1D system to 1D/2D scanning.
