The TP-Link TL-SG105PE is a 5-port Easy Smart Gigabit switch designed for small professional networks requiring simplified management and PoE power supply. Four of the five RJ45 ports support PoE+ IEEE 802.3af/at, allowing data and power to be transmitted via the same Ethernet cable to compatible devices.
Compared to an unmanaged switch, the TL-SG105PE adds useful features to better control and organise the network, including VLANs, QoS, traffic monitoring, port mirroring, loop prevention, cable diagnostics and PoE Auto Recovery. Configuration is carried out via a web-based graphical interface or the Easy Smart Configuration Utility.
The switch features 5 10/100/1000 Mbps RJ45 ports with Auto-Negotiation. Each port automatically detects the speed supported by the connected device and adapts the connection to ensure compatibility with 10, 100 or 1000 Mbps Ethernet equipment.
Support for Auto MDI/MDI-X also eliminates the need for crossover cables or dedicated uplink ports. The switching capacity reaches 10 Gbps, whilst the stated forwarding rate is 7.44 Mpps.
Ports 1 to 4 support IEEE 802.3af/at Power over Ethernet. The switch can therefore automatically detect a compatible PoE device and supply it with power via the Ethernet connection.
This solution allows you to connect and power up to four PoE devices, such as wireless access points, IP cameras and IP phones, reducing the need for dedicated power supplies and electrical sockets near the devices.
Each PoE port can supply up to 30 W, whilst the switch’s total PoE budget is 65 W. The power actually available may vary depending on the connected devices and environmental conditions.
The TL-SG105PE features an intelligent power management system that protects the network should the available PoE budget be exceeded. The ports are prioritised in the order from port 1 to port 4.
When the total power consumption of the PoE devices reaches or exceeds the set limit, the switch may cut off power to the port with the lowest priority in order to maintain the operation of the higher-priority connections. This management allows for a more controlled use of the 65 W PoE budget available.
The PoE Auto Recovery function helps to reduce the need for manual intervention on devices powered via the switch. If a connected PoE device stops responding, the switch can automatically restart its power supply.
This feature is particularly useful with equipment such as IP cameras or access points, where a power restart can restore operation without physically disconnecting the device.
To organise and segregate traffic, the TL-SG105PE offers MTU VLAN, port-based VLAN and IEEE 802.1Q VLAN functions. The device supports up to 32 VLANs using the identifiers available within the 4K VLAN ID space.
Segmentation allows for more precise organisation of connected devices and the separation of different types of traffic within the network infrastructure.
The Quality of Service features allow you to prioritise traffic using port-based, IEEE 802.1p and DSCP criteria. Four priority queues are available, in addition to Rate Limit and Storm Control functions.
Prioritisation can be used to favour latency-sensitive applications, such as voice and video traffic, over other data flows on the network.
The TL-SG105PE incorporates several features to facilitate network monitoring. Port Mirroring allows traffic to be mirrored for monitoring purposes, in both one-to-one and many-to-one modes.
The Cable Test function helps identify problems in wired connections, whilst Loop Prevention helps prevent issues caused by loops forming in the network.
The switch also supports IGMP Snooping for up to 128 groups and static link aggregation, with a maximum of four aggregation groups and up to four ports per group.
The switch’s settings can be managed via a web-based GUI or using the TP-Link Easy Smart Configuration Utility. This allows administrators to access key management functions without the complexity typically associated with a fully managed switch.
This combination positions the TL-SG105PE between a traditional plug-and-play switch and more advanced management solutions, offering useful configuration tools for a small professional network infrastructure.
Measuring just 99.8 × 98 × 25 mm, the switch takes up very little space and is also suitable for desks and workstations where space is limited.
The fanless design eliminates the need for active cooling. The front-facing LEDs also allow you to monitor power supply, PoE status, PoE limit reached and link activity.
The TP-Link TL-SG105PE is designed for small business networks that need to connect and power PoE devices via a Gigabit Ethernet infrastructure. It can be used with access points, IP cameras, IP phones and other Powered Devices compliant with the IEEE 802.3af/at standards.
Its Easy Smart features make it suitable for installations requiring greater control than an unmanaged switch, with tools for VLAN segmentation, QoS prioritisation, monitoring, diagnostics and PoE management.
