Thuraya is a regional satellite network consisting of two geostationary satellites and a ground station in Sharjah, UAE. The satellites cover Europe, the entire Middle East, most of Africa and Western Russia, and a large part of Southeast Asia including China.
The Thuraya network enables communication via phone, fax, and data transmission, as well as SMS between mobiles.
The terminals offered are single-mode Satellite or dual-mode Satellite/GSM and include GPS. They operate with prepaid or postpaid SIM cards, subject to monthly fees. Thuraya terminals are very compact and communication rates are very competitive.
Launched in 2009, the Thuraya IP modem allows high-speed internet connection, with shared mode speeds up to 444 Kbps or dedicated mode up to 284 Kbps, enabling email exchange, browsing, and use of many professional transmission applications: intranet, secure VPN, live transmission, and more.
