Datalogic Touch 65 Light - Reliable 1D scanning for everyday professional tasks

The Datalogic Touch 65 Light is a 1D Linear Imager barcode scanner designed for applications with low scanning volumes that require simplicity, reliability and low running costs. Its contact scanning technology allows it to capture the main linear barcodes whilst maintaining effective performance even in the presence of damaged barcodes or those printed to a sub-optimal standard.

Compact, lightweight and featuring low power consumption, it is particularly suitable for retail outlets, service counters, libraries, government offices, banks and businesses where information needs to be quickly captured from documents, receipts, bills or products.

6.5 cm reading window for standard codes

The 65 version utilises a 6.5 cm scan window, sized for standard barcodes. This format ensures the scanner remains compact and easy to handle, facilitating comfortable use during repetitive tasks at the counter or desk.

Linear Imager technology also ensures good performance even on damaged or poorly printed codes, a useful feature in environments where barcodes may appear on paper documents, labels or materials subject to wear and tear.

Resolution up to 0.102 mm and reading range up to 15 cm

The scanner achieves a maximum resolution of 0.102 mm, equivalent to 4 mil, enabling the capture of relatively dense codes. The light source uses a 640 nm LED and the minimum required print contrast ratio is 25 per cent.

The depth of field varies depending on the symbology, print resolution, contrast and ambient light. With 7.5 mil Code 39, the typical reading distance is up to 8.1 cm; with 10 mil Code 39, up to 12 cm; whilst with 13 mil EAN-13, it can reach 15 cm.

Extensive support for 1D codes and GS1 DataBar

The Datalogic Touch 65 Light automatically recognises the main standard 1D barcodes, including GS1 DataBar linear codes. It also supports GS1 DataBar Expanded Stacked, GS1 DataBar Stacked and GS1 DataBar Stacked Omnidirectional.

This compatibility makes the scanner suitable for many professional applications, from product and document management to front-office tasks using standardised linear symbologies.

Wide reading angle tolerance

The optical system allows for good positioning flexibility during scanning. The specified reading angles reach ±65° in tilt, ±45° in rotation and ±70° in lateral orientation, facilitating capture even when the code is not perfectly aligned with the scanner.

Scan confirmation is provided via a good read LED and an audible signal with an adjustable pitch, offering the operator immediate feedback after each scan.

USB or RS-232 interfaces and Keyboard Wedge

The Touch 65 Lite range is available in various interface configurations. Variants are available with USB or versions featuring RS-232 and Keyboard Wedge, allowing you to choose the configuration best suited to your existing infrastructure.

It is therefore important to check the interface of the specific variant before installation. The Lite version should not be confused with the Pro version, which features a more comprehensive multi-interface solution.

Resistance to drops from 1.5 metres

Despite its compact size, the reader is designed for daily professional use and can withstand repeated drops from 1.5 m onto a concrete surface. It also offers ESD protection up to 16 kV and an IP30 rating.

The device can operate at temperatures between 0 °C and 50 °C and can be stored or transported at temperatures between -20 °C and 70 °C. The supported operating humidity ranges from 5% to 95%, non-condensing.

The Datalogic Touch 65 Light is particularly suitable for specialist shops, service centres, libraries, schools, public sector organisations, banks, insurance companies and utility providers. It can be used to scan barcodes from products, books, documents, invoices and other media featuring compatible linear codes.

Datalogic’s documentation also indicates its use for 1D coupons displayed on mobile phones. Compatibility with the host system depends on the specific interface chosen: USB or RS-232/Keyboard Wedge for the Lite variants.
