Datalogic Heron HD3430 - Versatile 2D scanning for POS checkouts

The Datalogic Heron HD3430 is a wired 2D area imager scanner designed primarily for retail and checkout counters. It combines the ability to read a wide range of barcodes with a distinctive design, customisable visual and audible feedback, and the option to switch between handheld and presentation scanning.

This black kit includes the 2D scanner, the AutoSense stand and the USB cable. The configuration is therefore designed to create a complete POS station, allowing the scanner to be held in the hand or used on the stand.

Wide VGA sensor for 1D and 2D codes

The Heron HD3430 features a 752 × 480-pixel Wide VGA sensor. Area Imager technology enables omnidirectional scanning, reducing the need to precisely align the barcode with the scanner.

The device automatically recognises the main 1D linear codes, including GS1 DataBar, and supports 2D symbologies such as Aztec, Data Matrix, MaxiCode, QR Code, Micro QR and China Han Xin.

Support for postal codes, stacked and composite codes

In addition to traditional barcodes, the scanner supports numerous symbologies used in professional applications. Supported postal codes include Australian Post, British Post, Canadian Post, China Post, Japanese Post, KIX Post, Korea Post, Planet, Postnet and Royal Mail.

For stacked and composite codes, the following are supported, amongst others: PDF417, MicroPDF417, MacroPDF, EAN/JAN Composites and various GS1 DataBar variants.

Green Spot for immediate confirmation

The patented Datalogic Green Spot technology provides visual feedback confirming a successful read, helping the operator to immediately verify that the code has been captured correctly.

The feedback system also includes a polyphonic beeper, ‘good read’ LEDs and illumination on the top and sides of the scanner. In a POS environment, these signals provide clear confirmation even during repetitive operations.

Aiming system and white illumination

The Heron HD3430 uses a 650 nm VLD aiming system combined with white illumination. This combination helps the operator locate the code to be scanned and supports intuitive use during the checkout process.

Motion tolerance reaches 25 IPS. The specified reading angles are ±65° for Pitch, up to ±360° for Roll and ±60° for Skew.

Automatic switch to presentation mode

A particularly useful feature of the kit is the automatic switch from manual mode to presentation mode. When used with the AutoSense stand, the scanner can adapt to the workstation without requiring continuous manual management of the operating mode.

This flexibility allows the operator to switch between handheld and hands-free scanning, depending on the type of item or the layout of the checkout counter.

Customisable design and feedback for the retail sector

The Heron HD3430 has been developed with particular attention to aesthetic integration within the retail environment. The range offers top covers with a Carbon Fibre or Silver finish and multi-coloured LEDs on the sides and top.

For orders that meet the manufacturer’s requirements, further customisation options are available, including a company logo, top cover and visual or audible feedback. The polyphonic speaker allows for the use of different audio signals.

Wired connection for fixed installations

This configuration is a wired USB kit and comes with the relevant cable. The Heron HD3430 platform features a multi-interface configuration comprising Keyboard Wedge, OEM (IBM) USB, RS-232 and USB.

Wired operation eliminates the need for batteries and recharging, making the scanner suitable for fixed POS stations where a device that is always available is required.

Durability for daily professional use

The scanner can withstand drops from 1.5 m onto concrete and offers ESD protection up to 16 kV. Its dust and water resistance rating is IP40.

It can operate in ambient light levels ranging from 0 to 100,000 lux and at relative humidity levels of 5% to 90% non-condensing. The intended operating temperature range is 0 °C to 50 °C, whilst when switched off it withstands temperatures from -20 °C to 70 °C.
